Six hikers stranded near the top of California’s snowy Mount Baldy have been rescued.
A video in the post explained that the emergency text service gives authorities a GPS coordinate that updates every time they send a message. The rescue mission was a collaborative effort between SEB Emergency Services Detail and San Dimas Station Search & Rescue.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Special Enforcement Bureau shared videos from the rescue onX, formerly known as Twitter.
One video showed an aerial view of the mountain as the helicopter neared the area in which the hikers stood. In another video, the hikers are seen holding onto each other’s backs as they walk toward the helicopter.
“Hikers airlifted to safety. Saving lives priority 1,” the bureau wrote in its post.
Although the sheriff’s department explained on Facebook that it was an “effective rescue,” they noted that it was a “challenging” one due to their helicopter landing “on one wheel.”

“Deputy Gomez would like to remind everyone to wait out their hiking journey when there’s an upcoming storm. Inclement weather can result in unknown conditions and the potential for snow bridges, which can be dangerous for even the most experienced hikers,” the department wrote in its post.
The Weather Channelreported on Thursday that California is set to face “another multi-day siege of stormy weather this weekend into early next week.” Per the outlet, the weather could result in potential “flooding rainfall, landslides, heavy mountain snow, and strong winds.”
