Well , “ new ” as in “ Modern to late horror film . ” The ogre in head has in reality been spawning nightmares for generations , as we learned at New Line ’s “ ScareDiego ” revulsion presentation at Comic - Con last night . And , of course , we also catch up withIt ’s Pennywiseand the glowering star of The Nun .
It : Chapter Twowas up first ; since the motion picture is currently shoot , there was n’t much to apportion beyond a tap message from director Andy Muschietti ( who gleefully said the movie ’s going to be so scary , you ’ll need to “ convey your adult diapers ” ) and a behind the panorama collage that was , intelligibly , mostly footage from the first celluloid . That pronounce , we did see video ofthe continuation form at their first tabular array read , as well as a few very brief glimpses of them in character . The one that remain firm out the most appear like it was from the key here and now when the grown - up loser ’ Club reconvenes for the first time , choosing to entertain their reunification at a Chinese restaurant . Bill Hader , who wager joker Richie Tozier , looks around at everybody , grimaces , and says “ So — what do you guys want to speak about ? ” We did n’t get many new looks at Pennywise , but we ’ve already been altogether convinced of how scary he is . It : Chapter Two is out September 6 , 2019 .
Next up , the guy behind the complot universe , James Wan — who still has clip to get giddy over repugnance , even with all theAquaman plug — hail onstage . The film he was there to talk about is n’t part of the invocation dealership , but it looks to be very much in keeping with the tone of voice of those films : The Curse of La Llorona , a far more evocative choice thanits previous claim , The Children , specially give its focusing on the sinister weeping ghost that ’s a well - known figure in Mexican folklore . Director Michael Chaves , who ’s create his feature unveiling with the moving picture , talked it up with supporter from cast penis Linda Cardellini , Patricia Velasquez , and Raymond Cruz , and picture a trio of clips . The movie is set in the seventies , and Cardellini toy a Los Angeles social actor who ’s also the single female parent to two youthful kids . In the clip , we got some very good looks at La Llorona , who work a shattered livid veil and gown and some gnarly fingernails as she menaces various kid and finally Cardellini ’s theatrical role , too . The whole movie looks like it ’s basically “ cute kidskin in risk , ” which would be scary enough , but the scoundrel is exceptionally ghoulish , not to remark partial of popping up for well - timed jump panic . Chaves explain that he wanted The Curse of La Llorona to have a 1970s true - law-breaking flavour — a flow setting that just happens to echo those of both machinate films . It ’s out April 19 , 2019 .
The terminal film of “ ScareDiego ” was twist - off The Nun . It ’s lay in the fifties and investigates what demonic conical buoy Valak was up to before she start tormenting Lorraine Warren in The Conjuring 2 . Wan , theater director Corin Hardy , and writer Gary Dauberman ( whose many other credits will soon include writing and directing a third Annabelle pic , the patch of which will research how the doll from The Conjuring disrupt the Warrens ’ collection of taken up objects ; it ’s due out next summertime ) were representing the film , along with actor Taissa Farmiga and Ingrid Bisu . The casting here is kind of perfect — Bisu is actually Rumanian , which is where the celluloid is countersink and was filmed , and Farmiga is the young sister of Vera Farmiga , who toy Lorraine Warren in the Conjuring movies . Not present , but prominent in the clips that were show , was Demián Bichir , who roleplay the Vatican ’s top option to investigate the strange , seemingly unholy going away - on at a remote easterly European convent . We kind of make love the Nun ’s oecumenical bag of tricks already — she ’s really good at minatory looming , not to mention materializing out of the shadows — but the movie looks exceedingly atmospherical and even kind of surreal , and perhaps it ’ll get into why Valak end up going totally Exorcist rather than Sound of Music . And we wo n’t have long to await for this one , either ; The Nun is out September 7 .
