It was ready to go on Dec. 4 , but Activision threw its hands ( and believably lawyers ) up in the air , so the patch is in oblivion . Harmonix , on the other hand , will provide funding to any third - company developer who need to support Rock Band ’s gear , which is pretty cool on their part . As we have order in the past , Harmonix and MTV Games conceive in an candid standard philosophy of hardware and game compatibility . We think that there should be interoperability between music instrument controllers across all medicine games . This is clearly in the good interest of consumers , plot developers and console manufacturers and will only facilitate to grow the music game genre as well as inspire founding and creativity .
Two weeks ago , Harmonix created a software patch for the SonyPLAYSTATION 3version of Rock Band that permit for guitar compatibility and support for third company peripheral gadget , including enable use of Activision’sGuitar Hero IIIcontroller with Rock Band . The compatibility patch was submitted , okay and had been schedule for release by Sony on Tuesday , December 4 . unluckily , Activision objected to the compatibility patch ’s release . The spell persist with Sony , but we have been severalize that it will regrettably not be secrete due to Activision ’s continued objection .
As is the case with the Microsoft Xbox360 , we believe that Sony PLAYSTATION 3 users should be able to apply the peripheral of their choice with Rock Band . We sincerely hope that Activision will reverse its determination and allow release of the compatibility patch and further , that Activision will provide Guitar Hero III to sustain Rock Band guitar controllers as well . We welcome all third party developers who wish well to support our controller and will provide any required support in order for them to do so .
We believe that when consumer have choice , everyone wins . Harmonix and MTV Games hope that Activision and others will also adopt this school of thought .
