The mystery ofMartian watercontinues to intensify as a new cogitation looks at seasonal flow features within Valles Marineris on the Red Planet , the biggest canyon in the Solar System .
Researchers from the University of Arizona have detected many RSL , resort slope lineae(the proficient terminal figure for the water streaks ) , along the side of canyons in the equatorial realm of Mars . These RSL are shown to be associated with water , and they might have have little erosion sequence in the realm .
" There are so many of them , it ’s laborious to keep racecourse . The happening of go back incline lineae in these canyon is much more far-flung than previously recognize , " said lead source Matthew Chojnacki in astatement .

" As far as we can tell , this is the densest population of them on the satellite , so if they are indeed associated with contemporary aqueous body process , that makes this canyon system an even more interesting field than it is just from the striking geology alone . "
The paper , write inJournal of Geophysical Research Planets , has a surprising finding . If we have understood the constitution of the RSL correctly , Mars must have between 100,000 and 1,000,000 meters cubed of limpid water just below the surface .

If this is the case then Mars must have a far-flung mechanism to recharge this Hz . The investigator suggest an interaction between salts and the water vaporization in the ambiance could be a likely explanation as these streaks are believed to be made of a variety of brine .
There ’s enough urine vapor on Mars to bring out the RSL , but there ’s no known summons effective enough to extract all that water . The researchers have even suggested that the flow features in Valles Marineris might not be water - based at all , or maybe they have less water than RSL in other regions .
" There do seem to be more mode atmosphere and Earth’s surface interact in the canon than in blander topography , such as clouds trailing out of the canyons and low - lying daze in the canyons , " Chojnacki continue .
" Perhaps the atmosphere - surface interactions in this region are associated with the high abundance of resort gradient lineae . We ca n’t rule that out , but a mechanism to make the connexion is far from clear . "
More observations will be taken byNASA ’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter , and laboratories on Earth are imitate how these streaks are formed .
