perhaps some of you will care less about these new Dell PowerEdge 1855 Blade Servers , but there was a time when I was working as the World ’s Worst Systems Administrator , and we had a gang of Dell hardware around . It was amazingly good , too — a definite cut above their consumer geartrain — and I ’ve been search forward to what they would do next . The reason these new PowerEdge machines are different , though , is that Dell has figured out a way to swot 60 seperate blades ( a whole computer ) into the rack quad that traditionally could only hold 42 . By standing them on edge and sliding in 10 to a ‘ case , ’ the 1855s sit in clusters that can be stacked 6 high . That ’s a tidy sum of computing power in a small space — remember , there are two Xeon processor inside every one of those blades .
I have in mind , look at all the fans on the back of that matter . How could you detest that ?
