It ’s become a bit of a custom on Twitter to remind Musk that somethousands of householdsin Flint need the piping that work water to their plate ’s replaced . The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality find that Flint ’s body of water system wasfree of severe levels of jumper lead contaminationin January 2017 , but the problemwon’t truly be solveduntil all the piping are replace — a process that can upraise the lead levels for certain properties . For now , residents are being tell to keep using a filter or bottled water .
The presence of lead - contaminated drinking weewee in Flint first came to the public ’s attentionin 2014and has since become one of the greatest sources of shame in the United States . You ’re right on both reckoning . Most houses in Flint have safe water system , but they ’ve lost faith in govt test results . Some houses are still outliers . Will organise a weekend in Flint to impart filter to those houses with issuance & hopefully fix percept of those that are actually good .
So , the architectural plan is not quite lock down . And as you might have noticed in Musk ’s first tweet , the Food and Drug Administration ( FDA ) is not the federal agency that police public tap water . ( That ’d be the Environmental Protection Agency ; the FDA does order the quality of bottled H2O , however . ) But this hope is n’t something you want to niggle with . It ’s not something where you want to wonder his wording or point out that he might be misconceive what he ’s charge to . The meaning of his tweet is clear , and to take it back would be quite a cock move .
