A mother in Georgia died at a house party a month after her 18th birthday.

Officers from the Gwinnett County Police Department responded to a call in reference to someone being shot shortly after 1 a.m. at a local residence on Friday.

“When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered what appeared to be a house party. Officers cleared the residence and discovered one deceased female,” anews releasefrom the department reads.

A neighbor told WANF that they saw “a bunch of kids trying to get into their cars and leave the subdivision” after the gunshots. According to the outlet, the homeowner’s son hosted the party, and the homeowner was not home at the time of the incident.

Police have not identified a suspect in the case and asked the public to contact detectives with any relevant information.

“While our family awaits for what’s next to come, we are trying to prepare for what we know will need to be done next. Shania’s sudden passing meant that there were no preparations made ahead of time,” her message reads.

Long remembered Green as “a wonderful daughter, mother, sister, granddaughter, and niece who touched the lives of everyone around her.”

“She was known for her beautiful, infectious smile and her laughter. She had such a positive energy that she brought everywhere she went. On most days, you could find her lovingly taking care of her 7-month-old son or spending time with family,” she wrote.

As of Wednesday, the campaign has surpassed 200 donations and has raised over $9,000.
