VR ? Meh . Microsoft is going the holodeck route with something called HoloLens . These are holographic glasses and they ’ll be coming out around the same meter as Windows 10 . humanity , this certain looks awesome and coolheaded and belike also janky and dubiously useful ! We ’ll find out first - hand soon though ; Microsoft will be show up off the tech to attendees after today .
Hololens is no eye . First , it ’s untethered . Everything is in the headset ; that includes a CPU , a GPU , and something Microsoft is calling a Holographic Processor . HPU ? Also , this is n’t about throwing you into some VR blind - in - front - of - your - face cave . Hololens is about set practical things all over your real life , like Google Glass but somehow uglier and crowing but also better better . Exactly the experience we ’re hoping to see withthe cryptical Magic Leap .
As a Windows 10 gadget , the Hololens should also be able-bodied to run any app that a Windows 10 personal computer or phone will be capable to , so long as there ’s some holomagic UI programmed in . That could serve make it easier for cool shit to come to these insane goggles whenever it is that they plunge . For now , we ’re stuck with basic tech demo .

There ’s the promise of much , much more though ; Microsoft is already solve with NASA to apply the Hololens to drive the Mars rover Curiosity , somehow .
Microsoft is clearly super keen on the electric potential for this thing , they ’re promise it “ the next PC . ” That ’s a big hope — especially when it involves wearing something like this out and about and staring at affair that are n’t there — but god my stale misanthropical pith hopes they are 10000 per centum correct . No word on price yet , which is a gigantic miss detail .
Wired had anexclusive hands onwith the novel headset , andwe just engender one as well . It ’s not ping YOUR eye OUT OF YOUR FACE awesome quite yet , but it ’s fairly damn cool .
